Right next to the ferry terminal, the gateway to Ie Islan, is the Ie Products Center, a reliable stop for visitors looking for local specialties. Among its most popular offerings are “island shallots,” grown in the island’s fertile soil under the warm Okinawan sun.

Island shallots are a staple in Okinawan cuisine. Those from Ie Island are especially fragrant, with a crisp texture and a subtle spicy flavor. Served salted or lightly pickled as a snack, or deep-fried as tempura, their flavor is a familiar part of everyday life for locals. Their addictive taste makes them a perfect travel “omiayge” (gift).

Depending on the season, the center sells both fresh shallots and preserved products. The salted version has a long shelf life, making it easy to take home as a souvenir and enjoy the island’s flavor back home. You’ll also find a wide range of other items, including brown sugar, awamori, and sweets—all made on Ie Island. It’s the perfect place for souvenir shopping at the end of your trip.
